Andrea Palladio – The Basilica of the Most Holy Redeemer, Venice (Italy) 1577
The Church of the Redeemer is one of the masterpieces of the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. It is located in Venice, on the island of Giudecca, and was commissioned as a vote of thanksgiving for the end of the plague of 1576. Its construction began in 1577 and was completed in 1592, after Palladio's death. The church is famous for its Greek cross plan and central dome, which represent innovative and harmonious architectural solutions. Every year, in the month of July, the Festa del Redentore is celebrated, a traditional Venetian festival in honor of the savior from the plague.
