Borneo House Plot 18

MVRDV Architects – Borneo House Plot 18, (Borneo-Sporenburg), Amsterdam, 1999

Lot 18 is called the vegetable garden: 4,2 x 16 metres, with a 4,0 metre deep garden on the water front. In principle only three storeys were possible within the allotted 9,5 metre high envelope: one high storey at street level and two lower storeys above it.
A series of rooms have been created that differ in height and degree of privacy. Each room is connected to the outside in an exclusive way, ranging from a two-story veranda overlooking the water, to a balcony with French windows on the living room, from a bay window glass to the bedroom and a hanging garden to the attic study.
