Le Corbusier
Here, the certainties acquired up to that point were applied quite clearly: the pilotis, the hanging garden, the free plan, the free facade, the ribbon windows with sliding sash. The line followed here is an “automatic line” provided by simple elements of human-scale architecture such as the height of the floors, the size of windows, doors, balustrades. The classical plan is inverted here: the lower part of the house is open. The entrance is in the highest part of the house. One step and we are directly on the hanging garden overlooking the vast expanse of the Bois de Boulogne.
Excerpt from Le Corbusier, Oeuvre complète, volume 1, 1910-1929.
