Port House (also known as Antwerp Port House) It is a port building located in the port of Antwerp in Belgium, in the 't Eilandje district, designed by the architect Zaha Hadid.
It is part of a redevelopment and renovation of the abandoned building that previously housed a fire station. Since its inauguration, around 500 employees of the Belgian Port Authority have worked there and it can be visited. It was opened to the public on 22 September 2016.
Antwerp Port House stands out for the presence of the previous historic building to which star architect Zaha Hadid added an imposing diamond-shaped glass structure that towers over and dominates the structure. The new extension is accessible via panoramic elevators just off the central courtyard.
In total, the new Antwerp Port House project is 12.800 m6.600 (gross): 6.200 mXNUMX in the renovated fire station and XNUMX mXNUMX in the extension.
The maximum dimensions of the new building are 114 m long, 24 m wide and 46 m high (4 additional floors).
The diamond-shaped geometry of the building is further enhanced by the cladding design with panels that are never on the same plane but always slightly inclined to each other.
These facets reflect the light in an ever-changing way, a reference to the Antwerp diamond industry.
