Seinajoki Library

Alvar Aalto – Seinajoki Library, Finland, construction, 1963-1965

The old library in Seinajoki designed by Alvar Aalto was built in 1965
The fan-like shape of the main library room is the most striking feature of the building. Light falls through the slatted windows of the room and casts beautiful shapes on the ceiling, walls and bookshelves. The restored library designed by Aalto was opened in May 2015. The old library has been connected to the newly built library next door via a basement. The Aalto information desk is located in the Aalto library.
The Aalto Library also contains the world's largest collection of Aalto glass pieces.
