Type “C” building

Adalberto Libera – Olympic Village in Rome – Type C Building, Rome Italy, 1957-1960

The two groups of “small crosses” in the Olympic Village on the slopes of Villa Glori were designed by Luigi Moretti and Adalberto Libera.
The “crosses” designed by Moretti are distinguished by the use of ribbon windows, by the slight splaying of the fronts and by the solution used for the intersection between the four arms, completely disjointed from each other, in order to let as much light as possible penetrate into the stairwells.
The central staircase distributes 4 apartments per floor, continuing “in sight” up to the second floor.
The buildings are all suspended on pilotis, to ensure visual permeability and physical walkability of the ground floor.
