Villa in Ostia Type B – Villas of the Tirrena Company, Adalberto free – Ostia – Rome, Italy 1932-1934
The villa Type “B” così come il type A villa It is characterised by a rectangular plan and a strictly geometric volume.
In the main façade Libera moves back the central part thus increasing the depth of the long balconies that project beyond the volume with rounded corners. In the recessed wall three French windows open onto the balconies illuminating the interior spaces, in contrast the lateral walls remain full.
The balconies are characterised by balustrades with horizontal bands of thin white painted metal.
On the attic floor, the main façade is emptied, leaving four pillars exposed and creating a deep loggia that also opens onto the lateral façades where there are characteristic balconies with naval-style railings.
On the rear side, the volume of the stairwell is curvilinear and exceeds the main body of the building in height. The stairwell is illuminated along its entire height by two vertical “ribbon” windows that, with their openings, make explicit the interpenetration of the two bodies.
