Water villas – Patio Island housing

MVRDV Architects – Patio Island, Hagen Island and water villas waterwijk, Ypenburg, Netherlands, 2001-2005

Four rows of townhouses make up Patio Island, with the central house of each row connected to the street by narrow passages, potentially allowing for hanging paintings or storage of garden tools and bicycles. Each house has a separate rooftop unit positioned to prevent visual intrusion to and from neighbors. The rooftops are reached from the patio by stairs and used as terraces, presenting a potential meeting place for neighbors.
