Marcel Breuer – Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 1966

The building is located at the corner of Madison Avenue and 75th Street, designed by architect Marcel Breuer together with Hamilton Smith.
Breuer created this architecture with a strong modernist imprint in a neighborhood of traditional, limestone and brick homes, typical of postwar apartment buildings. Considered dark, heavy and even brutalist at the time of its completion in 1966, Breuer's building is now recognized as bold, strong and innovative. It has become one of the most important buildings in New York.
