Endless opportunities for those who love to narrate urban spaces through the lens.
Milan is a city that changes face every hour of the day, offering endless opportunities for those who love to capture the urban landscape through their lens. From historic monuments to contemporary architecture, through evolving neighborhoods and hidden corners, here's a photography itinerary designed to discover (and capture) the best of Milan in a single day.
Morning (7:30 – 11:00): Soft light and calm atmosphere
Milan Cathedral
Start your day in front of the city's iconic cathedral. Arrive early to avoid the crowds and enjoy the golden light of dawn on the Gothic spires. Climbing to the terraces (opening at 9:00 a.m.) allows you to photograph the architectural details up close and enjoy panoramic views of the skyline.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
Right next to the Duomo, the Galleria is perfect for symmetrical photos and plays of light between glass and iron. Try shots from below looking up under the large central dome.
Velasca Tower (See our photo gallery)
Get closer to the building, seeing its wider, more massive upper section, and frame the radial lines of the beams, creating depth and visual power. Overcast or gray skies? Perfect.
The tower becomes even more dramatic. The textures are enhanced and the brutalist tone intensifies.
Sforzesco Castle and Sempione Park
Strolling along Via Dante, you reach the Castle, with its massive towers and Renaissance courtyards. The nearby Sempione Park offers interesting views and a pleasant contrast between nature and historic architecture.
Coffee break (11:00 – 11:30)
Stop at the Triennale Milano bar, nestled in the greenery of Sempione Park, for a short break overlooking the Branca Tower.
Midday and early afternoon (11:30 – 13:30): contemporary urbanity
Porta Nuova and Piazza Gae Aulenti
The heart of modern Milan, with futuristic skyscrapers, elevated walkways, and bodies of water. The harsh midday light highlights the clean lines of the Unicredit Tower and the surrounding buildings.
Vertical Forest (See our photo gallery)
Two residential towers covered in vegetation, a symbol of the green city. Stroll through the Isola neighborhood for shots with original perspectives and natural details.
Lunch break (13:30 PM – 14:30 PM)
Recommended restaurants in the Isola area or along Corso Como: perfect for a street photo and a tasty break.
Late afternoon and golden hour (14:30 pm – 19:30 pm): warm light and fluid shapes
CityLife (See our photo gallery)
A futuristic neighborhood easily accessible by the purple metro. The heart of the project is defined by the three towers signed by Zaha Hadid, Arata Isozaki and Daniel Libeskind, which draw the skyline with dynamic geometries and spectacular reflections at sunset.
Alongside the skyscrapers, the masterplan also includes the Hadid and Libeskind residences, where fluid lines and sculptural volumes transform the urban space into a true laboratory of contemporary architecture.
Il urban park It is a central element, with lawns, tree-lined avenues and large open spaces.
The complex program artline brings contemporary works of art into the greenery: every walk among the towers can become a discovery, sculptures, installations, site-specific interventions that respond to the architectural and landscape context.
Fondazione Prada
A place that combines contemporary art and conceptual architecture.
The complex, designed by the studio OMA by Rem Koolhaas, was born from the regeneration of a former industrial distillery, transformed into a set of unique exhibition spaces.
The contrasts between raw materials and refined surfaces, between historic buildings and new geometries, create a fascinating visual dialogue. Late afternoon is the best time to appreciate the play of light and the evocative atmosphere that envelops the complex.
Evening (19:30 PM – 21:00 PM): urban atmosphere and reflections
ships
End the day among Milan's canals. The lights of the taverns, the bridges, and the water create perfect reflections for atmospheric evening photos.
