Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (Utrecht, June 24, 1888 - Utrecht, June 25, 1964) was a Dutch architect and craftsman.
He was one of the leading exponents of neoplasticism in the field of architecture and design.He created, in 1918, the famous 'red-blue chair', composed of red and blue plywood boards with a black and yellow structure, according to a geometric design which represents the three-dimensional equivalent of Piet Mondrian's works. The Schröder house in Utrecht (1924), one of his most important creations, with the asymmetrical arrangement of the horizontal and vertical glass and masonry planes, gave substance to Mondrian's idea of a formal research based on simple geometric relationships and relationships chromatic between the parts.
