The new university library, a building designed by the architect Rafael Moneo, was inaugurated on January 27, 2009 to replace the old university building, now with new and different uses. It is located in the center of Abandoibarra, near the Auditorium of the University of the Basque Country by architect Álvaro Siza. Flanked by the Iberdrola Tower and close to the Guggenheim Museum, it connects with the University of Deusto itself via the Pedro Arrupe footbridge, which connects both sides of the estuary.
