The Looshaus is a famous building in Vienna designed by the architect Adolf Loos, as well as one of the main examples of Viennese Modernism. It marks the renunciation of historicism, but also of the floral decoration of the Secessionist style. It is located on Michaelerplatz in front of the Hofburg.
Architecture
Despite its functional appearance, the building is not a simple functional building (not without contradictions from a formal point of view, not even much attention was paid to the expense of the use of materials and their workmanship). In fact, despite the clear intention of contrasting with the style and taste of the time in the name of modernity, Loos always professed to be in line with the Viennese tradition. Characteristic is the contrast between the marble arranged in the lower part of the facade (a green cipollino marble from Euboea) and the simple lime-plastered facade of the residential floors above….…Wikipedia…>>
