Oser House
Louis Kahn – Casa Oser (Oser House), Pennsylvania, United States, 1939-1943
Year
1939 - 1943
Architect
Louis Kahn
Commissioned in 1939 da Jesse and Ruth Oser, good friends of Kahn and his wife, Esther, the house was built in a hilly forest in Montgomery County, when it had originally been planned for another location.
This project was one of Kahn's first dwellings, and it illustrates well the features that were later developed further and would be most indicative of his aesthetic.
Formally, the Oser house is rectangular and massive, it is covered in stone and each addition or subtraction to the basic volume is characterized by wooden cladding. With this simple gesture, the changes in the areas of the building's volume are visually associated with different materials.
Location: Pennsylvania, United States, 1939-1943
