Michael Graves – Plocek House, Warren, New Jersey, 1977-1982

Designed and built from 1977 to 1979 by American architect Michael Graves, this private residence is sufficiently distinct to be considered a contemporary architectural masterpiece that occupies a special place in the pantheon of American design.
This house is mentioned in publications as an early and unique example of post-modernist architecture and was built for Michael Plocek and his family.

The hilltop villa, according to the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, resembles an "Italian palazzo but with abstract columns and a missing keystone that reappears as a study pavilion in the garden." Originally built as a 372-square-foot home on a 6.500-square-foot lot, the house underwent some renovations a couple of years ago, including the completion of a portion that had been left unfinished. With this innovative project, Graves announced a new movement in architecture, connected to the history of architecture by creating a new design vocabulary, and would form an emerging school of thought: postmodernism.
