The Couch Tennis Club

Tennis clubs and grandstands in Amsterdam

The name "the couch” derives from the concept of a comfortable place like a "sofa" represented by the informal grandstand and which constitutes the roof of the clubhouse.
The building volume will be open on both sides and will contain different functions, services - changing rooms, bar restaurant. The north facade is entirely glass to ensure better lighting of the spaces and a great panoramic view of the lake.

"The clubhouse design for Tennis Club IJburg in the east of Amsterdam is an attempt to minimize the use of valuable playing space by combining the typology of a clubhouse, a long, low strip open to the courts on one side and the waters of the IJMeer on the other, with that of a sports grandstand, perfectly sloped for viewing the centre court. The roof of the clubhouse folds down to form this informal spectator platform, which can accommodate up to 200 people."
