Kenzo Tange (Osaka, September 4, 1913 – Tokyo, March 22, 2005) was a Japanese architect and urban planner. He is considered one of the major representatives of twentieth-century architecture.
Most of his projects are in Japan, but he has also created several works in Italy: in Bologna the towers of the fair district (1972), in Catania the Librino district (1971) and in Naples the Centro Direzionale (1995). In Milan he is the author of the urban planning project of the San Donato Milanese Business District (1990-99) where he created the BMW-Italia headquarters (1998) and the AGIP tower (1999). In Rome, instead, he designed the Italian headquarters of the Toyota Italia Group.
Tange has received numerous awards from several countries, including the Gold Medal from the RIBA, the AIA, and the French Academy of Architecture, and in 1987 the Pritzker Prize, the world's highest honor for architecture.
