(Caprese, 6 March 1475 – Rome, 18 February 1564) was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet. A protagonist of the Italian Renaissance, he was already recognized during his lifetime as one of the greatest artists of all time.

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, commonly known as Michelangelo, was one of the greatest Italian artists and one of the most influential figures of the Italian Renaissance. He was born on March 6, 1475 in Caprese, in the Duchy of Urbino, and died on February 18, 1564 in Rome. His artistic career spanned over 70 years, during which he created works of extraordinary importance in the fields of sculpture, painting and architecture.

1. The pity: This marble sculpture, made between 1498 and 1499, is one of Michelangelo's first significant works and is located in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. It depicts the Madonna holding the body of Jesus after his crucifixion and is an extraordinary example of grace and beauty.
