Weissenhof Quarter 1927

Dwg plan at 1:1000 scale

The Weissenhof district (in German Weißenhofsiedlung) is a district built in Stuttgart in 1927, on the occasion of the exhibition organized by the Deutscher Werkbund. It was a sort of international “showcase” to show the architectural and social innovations proposed by the Modern Movement. The complex included twenty-one buildings, for a total of sixty homes, designed by sixteen European architects, most of them German.

Mies van der Rohe He had been entrusted with the management of the project as architectural director of the Werkbund and it was he who chose the architects, distributed the lots and funds, and supervised the entire project.
