Reticular Structures
An reticular structure o spatial lattice structure is a rigid and light structure built by interlocking uprights and nodes according to various geometric patterns, mainly of a pyramidal type. Spatial lattice structures are usually used for multi-directional solutions allowing the creation of long spans (wide lights) by means of a limited number of pillars. They draw their strength from the intrinsic rigidity of the "triangular frame"; the deflections to the loads (bending moments) are transmitted as tension and compression loads along the length of each strut.
Their geometry is often based on Platonic solids. The simplest form is a horizontal slab of interconnected square-based pyramids constructed by means of aluminum or tubular steel uprights. In some ways it appears as a structure obtained by juxtaposing multiple horizontal crane arms repeated in space.
