Beach Tennis
Il Beach Tennis is a sport played on sand, similar to traditional tennis, but with some important differences in the structure of the court, dimensions and materials. Here is a complete overview of the dimensions and materials for the construction of a Beach Tennis court:
Beach Tennis Court Dimensions
The field from Beach Tennis It is smaller than the traditional tennis one, and is structured to adapt to the nature of the game on sand. The official dimensions are as follows:
- Length: 16 meters
- Width:
- For single: 8 meters
- For doppio: 8 meters
- Service area:
- Service area length: 4 meters (split into two halves, from right to left)
- The service area is delimited by a service line parallel to the network.
The network
La net Beach Tennis has some specific differences compared to traditional tennis:
- Height: the net must be high 1,70 meters in the center e 1,80 meters to the side posts.
- Material: the network is generally made of nylon o polyethylene, weather-resistant materials. It must be sturdy enough to withstand playing conditions, but light enough not to hinder play.
Surface (Materials)
La playing surface of a Beach Tennis court is, as the name suggests, the sand. Here are some features to consider:
- Type of sand: The sand should be fine, like that found on the beach, and should be leveled evenly. Too coarse or irregular sand may make the game less fluid.
- Sand thickness: ideally, the sand should have a thickness of between 10 and 15 cm to provide good support for the game and ensure an adequate surface for the players' movement.
- Preparing the field: the sand must be compact but soft to allow players to move easily, without damaging the body during rapid movements. Some fields are equipped with a system of irrigation to keep the sand moist and compact during games.
Game lines
The lines that delimit the court are generally drawn on the sand with visible but easily removable materials. There are no physical lines like on tennis courts, but only visible signs. The lines must be clearly visible to avoid confusion during matches.
- Length of lateral linesThey extend along the entire length of the field, i.e. 8 meters for singles and doubles.
- Bottom lines: define the length of the field (16 meters).
- Service line: each side of the playing field is divided by a centre line and a service line, which separates the two playing areas diagonally.
Accessories and other features
- Net poles: the poles must be resistant, generally in steel o aluminum, and well fixed in the ground to ensure that the net is stable during play.
- Equipment: players use special rackets for Beach Tennis (lighter and smaller than traditional tennis rackets) and a ball which can be slightly larger and softer than the tennis one, to adapt to playing on sand.
Designing a Beach Tennis Court
When designing a Beach Tennis court, it is important to also consider the surrounding spaces, to ensure that players can move freely without obstacles. It is advisable to have at least 2-3 meters of space beyond the playing lines for player safety.
