German Building Exposition, Berlin, 1931
◄ Return to the architecture of Mies van der Rohe
Architect Johann Klaus König writes of this house:
“Mies, in the small Berlin house, completely breaks up the wall box, re-composing it starting from the man who lives in this house, from the physical space that wraps and accompanies him in his movements.
The floor no longer has the same shape and size as the surface of the roof: the walls are only partitions of the space, and, to visually demonstrate this loss of their characteristic of supporting elements, they often do not reach the ceiling, which is supported by planimetrically punctiform elements, which in this case are chromium-plated steel pillars”.
