Truncated cone skylight

It is a zenithal skylight with inclined development, designed for capture natural light from above and bring it inside in a controlled way, avoiding direct glare. The truncated conical geometry, with inclined walls and a glass upper cut, allows the light to spread evenly along the internal volume, emphasizing the verticality of the space and the perception of the material.
From a construction point of view, the skylight is composed of:
- bearing structure integrated into the roofing system,
- glass infills superior, probably with laminated glass and solar screens,
- sealing and insulation systems which guarantee thermo-hygrometric continuity with the flat roof.
The inclination of the lateral surfaces is not only a formal fact, but responds to a precise strategy of light control, a central theme in museum design, for example: natural light becomes an architectural tool, capable of enhancing the exhibition space and, at the same time, protecting the works of art on display.
This truncated cone skylight has as a reference the one designed by Richard Meier since Ara Pacis Museum a Roma.
