Designed by Japanese architect and landscape architect Nakajima Ken

The Japanese Garden at the Japanese Cultural Institute in Rome is an enchanting place that reflects Japanese aesthetics and philosophy. Located in the heart of the city, it offers an oasis of tranquility and beauty, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in Japanese culture and nature.

This garden is designed following the principles of traditional Japanese gardening, which focus on the harmony between nature and architecture.
The garden was designed by renowned architect and landscape architect Ken Nakajima, who also designed the Japanese area within the Botanical Garden in Rome.

In the garden, all the essential elements of the sen'en (pond garden) style garden, which reached its present splendor by perfecting itself through the Heian, Muromachi (14th-16th centuries) and Momoyama (late 16th century) periods, appear.
Koi carp pond, waterfalls, rocks, bridges, lanterns, and many iconic plants such as cherry, wisteria, iris, camellias, magnolias, maples, and dwarf pines. All these elements are carefully arranged to create a balanced and evocative composition that invites contemplation and reflection.

For those visiting Rome, the Japanese Garden at the Japanese Cultural Institute is a must-see, offering a unique and unforgettable experience of immersion in the beauty and serenity of Japanese culture.
