Microsoft Italy (Rome Office)

A balance between glass and terracotta for contemporary architecture

The Microsoft Italy headquarters in Rome, designed by the studio Farrono & Tecton, presents itself as a compact three-story volume. A central cut breaks the regular geometry and introduces light and airiness.
The curtain walls are conceived as large glass surfaces without visible metal profiles.
These facades give the building a uniform and luminous appearance. Different material solutions were chosen: deep blue tones at the ends, opaque glass on the roof, and differentiated mirrors on the side elevations.

The distinctive element of the project is the cladding in ventilated cooking, reinterpreted in a contemporary key as a thin, technological skin. This system, combined with the use of glass and travertine, generates an architectural language that blends innovation, tradition, and sustainability.

The building, awarded with theINARCH 2010, fits into the urban context as a significant example of corporate architecture capable of expressing formal rigor and international identity.
