Amphitheatrum Flavium - Photographs from all points of view

Originally known as Amphitheatrum Flavium (Italian: Anfiteatro Flavio) or simply as Amphitheatrum, it is the largest amphitheatre in the world, located in the centre of the city of Rome.. Able to hold an estimated 50.000 to 75.000 spectators, it is the most important Roman amphitheatre, as well as the most imposing monument of ancient Rome that has come down to us, known throughout the world as a symbol of the city of Rome and one of the symbols of Italy.

See the reconstruction of the Colosseum and make a dynamic comparison between the past and the present

We have also developed dynamic comparisons between some extracts of the map of Gian Battista Nolli from 1748 and the aerial photos of contemporary Rome (2016) Among these elaborations there is also the Colosseum, the Imperial Forums and the Circus Maximus

The photographs we publish on this page are of the interiors of the Colosseum and the exteriors, photos rich in high definition architectural details.
This publication is not aimed so much at the tourist, whom we invite to visit the monument in person to live an exceptional experience, but at the scholar of the history of Roman architecture, hoping to be useful to his research work.
