Garden of the Japanese Cultural Institute
Designed by Japanese architect and landscape designer Nakajima Ken
The Japanese Garden of the Japanese Cultural Institute in Rome is an enchanting place that reflects Japanese aesthetics and philosophy. Located in the heart of the city, it offers an oasis of tranquility and beauty, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in Japanese culture and nature.
This garden is designed following the principles of traditional Japanese gardening, which focus on the harmony between nature and architecture.
The project is by the well-known architect and landscape designer Ken Nakajima, also author of the Japanese garden inside the Botanical Garden of Rome.
In the garden, all the essential elements of the style garden appear sen'en (garden with pond), which reached its current splendor by perfecting itself throughout the Heian, Muromachi (14th-16th century) and Momoyama (late 16th century) periods.
Koi pond, waterfalls, rocks, bridges, lanterns, and many iconic plants such as cherry, wisteria, iris, camellias, magnolias, maples and dwarf pines. All these elements are carefully arranged to create a balanced and suggestive composition, which invites contemplation and reflection.
For those visiting Rome, the Japanese Garden of the Japanese Cultural Institute is an unmissable stop, offering a unique and unforgettable experience of immersion in the beauty and serenity of Japanese culture.
