Riverside Park Oasis of Ponte Milvio
A new green space between nature, history, and urban architecture
Opened on June 10, 2025, the Riverside Park – Ponte Milvio Oasis represents one of the most significant environmental and landscape redevelopment projects along the Tiber. Located on the right bank of the river, between Ponte Milvio and Ponte Flaminio, this new green space of approximately 6,5 hectares is the fourth of the five riverfront parks created in Rome thanks to Jubilee funds.
The goal is to restore the city's direct relationship with its river, while simultaneously enhancing the area's biodiversity and historical heritage.
A natural oasis in the city
The park was designed as green lung where citizens can immerse themselves in nature without moving away from the urban context.
Typical vegetation of the hygrophilous forest (poplars, willows, elms) regenerated and enriched with shrubs and ground cover plants.
Presence of numerous species of aquatic birds, including cormorants, moorhens and kingfishers, which find an ideal habitat here.
Pedestrian paths and wooden walkways which allow you to cross the most sensitive areas, minimizing the environmental impact.
Landscape architecture and installations
One of the most interesting elements of the Ponte Milvio Oasis is the project of the wooden furnishings, designed to integrate with the surrounding nature.
- Benches, terraces and walkways in treated wood, with simple and linear geometries.
- Three themed rest areas:
- Water garden, with a tub of hygrophilous plants under the large poplars. (To be built?)
- Central clearing, designed for educational and social meetings.
- Historical-archaeological area, which preserves precious testimonies such as the terminal cippus from 52 BC, parts of the ancient tuff banks and sections of the ancient Via Flaminia.
The intervention is distinguished by the balance between urban functionality, historical memory and environmental respect, restoring dignity to an area that had been degraded and inaccessible for years.
A new view of the Tiber
Thanks to reclamation, planting and the insertion of new paths, the park is now a place of meeting and contemplation.
- Panoramic viewpoints which offer suggestive views of the river and historic bridges.
- Improved accessibility with signposted entrances and routes accessible to all.
- A space that lends itself to walks, cultural and educational activities and moments of relaxation, reinforcing the idea of a linear river park along the Tiber.
The Ponte Milvio Oasis is not just a landscape intervention, but a symbolic bridge between past and presentThe city's thousand-year history, the rediscovered nature of the Tiber, and a contemporary landscape architecture project meet in a place finally returned to its citizens.
This photo gallery documents both the naturalistic part and the furnishing elements, offering a complete look at a work that unites nature, history and urban design.
