The Alamillo bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Seville (Spain) that crosses the Guadalquivir river, designed by Santiago Calatrava and finished in 1992
It was built for Expo 92, to allow you to reach the island of La Cartuja, where the exhibition took place.
It is a bridge with a single pylon, which acts as a counterweight to the 200 m of structure, suspended by thirteen large tie rods. The original idea was to build two symmetrical bridges on both sides of the island, however the particular design of the bridge is very impactful in itself. A bridge with a similar structure is the Sundial Bridge in Turtle Bay, near Redding (California), also owned by Calatrava, completed in 2004.
