The church of San Giovanni Battista on the outskirts of Florence is also called the church of the Autostrada del Sole because of its location at the intersection of the Autostrada del Sole and the A11 Firenze-Mare, or simply the church of the motorway. It was built by Giovanni Michelucci between 1960 and 1964. It extends into an oasis of six thousand square meters (half of which are covered), just outside the Firenze Nord tollbooth.
