Row Houses at the Weissenhof siedlung

J. J. Pieter Oud – Row Houses No. 5-6-7-8-9 Stuttgart, Germany 1927

Low row houses for the Weissenhof district in Stuttgart 1927.
Oud produces a series of five townhouses based on some programmatic principles formulated by Mies van der Rhoe. These houses have a narrow front that develops in height and depth with a back garden, and were built on a plot characterized by the presence of two streets.
The initial idea is to design them as a comfortable and comfortable place to live and that requires as little as possible for its inhabitants to be habitable.
From the plants we can immediately see how the position of the building is a fundamental choice: the services have been placed to the north, while the residential part is to the south.
