Bruno Taut

German architect and urban planner.

Bruno Taut was a famous 20th-century German architect, best known for his contribution to the German Expressionist architecture movement. Born in 1880 and died in 1938, Taut had a significant impact on architectural design, not only through his projects, but also through his ideas and theories.
Among his most famous works is the residential complex “Hufeisensiedlung” (Literally: “Horseshoe Settlement”) in Berlin, built in the 1920s. This settlement is an emblematic example of his architectural vision, which emphasized the importance of design in improving people’s daily lives.
Taut was also involved in architectural theory and criticism. He wrote several books on architecture and helped define and promote the aesthetics and ideas of German expressionism in the field of architecture.
His career went through periods of great creative ferment, but also difficult times related to historical events, such as the postwar economic crisis and the rise of the Nazi regime, which led to his emigration to Japan in 1933, where he continued to work until his death in 1938.
