Plastic laminate

Plastic laminate is a material commonly used in the furniture and furnishing sector as a covering for chipboard, MDF, honeycomb panels and more. If of adequate thickness it can also be used without support panels for building facade cladding, garden and street furniture, bathrooms and public offices.
One of the most widespread synonyms for thermoplastic laminate is the term formica which identifies the historic manufacturing company of the same name.
In the furniture sector, laminate means a sheet obtained by pressing several layers of paper impregnated with phenolic or melamine resins.
In the most common version therefore the laminate is composed of a protective or external finishing layer called overlay usually impregnated with melamine resins, a sheet with a decorative print or colored in solid colors (also impregnated with melamine resins) and a back composed of 1 or more layers of phenolic paper called kraft. The kraft has a brownish color with changes based on the requests from black to cream typical of raw paper; However, there are laminates with homogeneous kraft matching the surface and also kraft made with layers of different colours; laminates made of kraft coupled with aluminum sheets, blank or even sheets of magnetic material are also produced.
