Beijing National Stadium (traditional Chinese: 北京 國家 體育場; simplified Chinese: 国家 体育场; Hanyu Pinyin: Běijīng Guójiā Tǐyùchǎng; Tongyong Pinyin: Běijīng Guójiā Tǐyùchǎng), or Olympic stadium in Beijing, is the stadium that has hosted, in addition to the ceremonies the opening and closing races of some disciplines of the XXIX Olympiad Games. Due to its shape it has been nicknamed "Bird's Nest" (鸟巢, niǎocháo; Bird's Nest in English).
A tender was launched between the greatest architects in the world to choose the best project and in the end it was chosen to build the futuristic stadium presented by the architects Herzog & de Meuron, the same who designed the Allianz Arena in Munich, with the collaboration of ArupSport, the China Architecture Design & Research Group and the contemporary artist Ai Weiwei.
