House in Viganello

Mario Botta – House Pfaeffli in Viganello, Switzerland, 1981

Like all Mario Botta's projects, a strong sense of geometry prevails in this house too, simple shapes that create volumes with unique spaces.
The house in Viganello is a building built entirely of brick with the exception of the large central window.
The building is on top of a hill and enjoys a great view over the village downstream.
The building is symmetrical in shape and in the center there is an imposing circular pillar that crosses all the floors, with a full-height central space covered by a large semi-cylindrical glass surface with a light and elegant metal structure.
