San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Mario Botta – San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco – USA, 1995

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is located in the Yerba Buena area, at the foot of the Pacific Bell Building, and is the main museum entirely dedicated to modern art in the city of San Francisco. It is known simply as SFMOMA. The museum's collection currently has more than 26,000 pieces including paintings, sculptures and photographs.
Initially housed in the War Memorial Veterans Building, near the San Francisco Civic Center, since 1995 it has been housed in the new headquarters designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta in downtown San Francisco. (Source: Wikipedia)

The SFMOMA museum reopened on May 14, 2016, following a major three-year expansion project by Snøhetta architects. The expansion doubles the museum gallery spaces and provides nearly six times more public space than the previous building, allowing SFMOMA to showcase an expanded collection alongside the contemporary art collection.
