Lewin house
Walter Gropius – The Kurt and Gertrude Lewin House, Berlino Germany, 1927-1928
Year
1928
Architect
Walter Gropius
Composition of cubic shapes that intertwine and rest directly on the flat ground. Total absence of decorations, two floors, white facades, a distribution that differs from the standards of the time and the use of the flat roof. The empty spaces of the facade are reduced in its elevation compared to the street (north-east), much wider on the sides and on the back (south-west). The house bears similarities to what Gropius designed for teachers in the Bauhaus in Dessau.
